You can only play pictures and music through MyLink USB. No video playback.

Not to butt in on your post, but can you change your background with pictures from a flash drive? And does the usb have to be plugged in or can you save a picture and unmount the flash drive.

And to add to the topic. Is there a firmware update that could be done to play videos?

No you can only view the pictures while the thumb drive is plugged in and the car is stopped. No way to save the pics to the unit. No update to playback video, official or aftermarket.

I know this thread is old.. but is there any hope at all of being able to make these things play videos? or just going to have to switch to aftermarket?

... it is a car; not a home entertainment center to be watching videos while driving ...

... concentrate on enjoying the performance and road; not videos, texting, talking on the phone and surfing the web ...

Distracted driving = death and destruction.

Not sure, but you can check, if you are dead set on videos, but I think you can order a module from suppliers in Australia that will allow you to watch videos in motion, another option, is there is a guy on here who does Holden Conversions for MyLink, the DIC and Hud modules, he might know if it can be done, and even do the hack for you. Look in the electronics section of the forum. Im with CB750, why would you want to watch videos when you could be enjoying the drive.....
